PM Modi visits Uttarakhand, announces ₹1,200 crore relief package and ex-gratia for flood-hit families

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited Dehradun to review the devastation caused by heavy rains, flash floods and landslides in Uttarakhand. He met families of the victims, interacted with rescue teams, and chaired a review meeting with state officials on the ground situation.

Announcing a financial assistance package of ₹1,200 crore for relief and restoration, the Prime Minister also declared an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured. Children orphaned in the tragedy will be supported under the PM CARES for Children scheme.

Modi praised the efforts of NDRF, SDRF and Aapda Mitra volunteers engaged in relief operations, assuring that the central government will extend full support for rebuilding damaged infrastructure. Bad weather, however, prevented him from conducting an aerial survey of the worst-hit districts.

Uttarakhand has been battered by torrential rains in recent days, with rivers including the Ganga, Alaknanda and Mandakini flowing above danger levels. The floods have claimed over 80 lives and left several missing. Key bridges, including one on the Jyotirmath–Malari highway near Tamak, have been washed away, cutting off access to remote villages.
